dl211 says: Had the government taken such a stand when the number of those infected was small, how many lives would have been saved? But then like now, the PC merely labels logic thought as bigotry and reject reason. I'm not sure a quarantine would have been the best course of action, but I give the man credit for not trying to fudge this statement now. Too often pols will make excuse after excuse to wash away past comments that they think could cost them votes. While watching FOX Sunday this morning, while admitting he would not come to the same decision today due to the knowledge we have gained of AIDS since his stance during the earlier campaign, Mr. Huckabee took full responsibility for his words then and did not apologize for the stance he took then. I would not have been in favor of a quarantine, then or now, but at least Huckabee was thinking in terms of treating it as a deadly disease and was thinking along those terms back then. Seems we've placed such an emphasis on safeguarding the identity of those infected, we've placed the public in greater danger. I don't know the answer but I think we've done a miserable job in the past 20+ years in addressing it. I do applaud Huckabee for not ducking his prior stance, since that appears to be the norm for those in DC lately. |
