merrie says:
General David Petraeus will be testifying in Washington that the conditions are improving in Iraq and that the United States must "stay the course." Petraeus will be acting as a de facto surrogate for McCain in domestic politics. Obama will have to respond to the general's serious claims without retreating from the commitment he has given to early withdrawal. The questions of Afghanistan, Iran and Pakistan could intensify as a symbol of America's current policies towards terrorism. McCain has already absorbed both neoconservative doctrines and the neoconservatives themselves in his campaign against "Islamo-fascism" as the greatest threat in American history.
They will attack Obama for proposing to pull the plug on Iraq just when the tide is turning.

They will question Obama's experience in pushing for diplomacy towards Iran, draw him out on why he favors more troops in Afghanistan and a pre-emptive strike against Pakistan if there is "actionable intelligence."

Democrats have always pledged to keep the country out of war, but once in office have proven otherwise. The most notable examples of these campaign LIES are Woodrow Wilson and Roosevelt, who both conspired to get America into war, notably WWI and WWII.

Obama (and Hillary) is as much of a liar as George W. Bush!

Politicians will say anything, do anything, be everything
to everyone, to get the votes to put them in office.
Then, once in place, their butts grow to their seat.

On the flip side, what if he actually does what he says?

Most people appointed a new congress to end the war. They haven't, and their ratings plummeted.

Someone should inform Obama that the war in Iraq ended 5 days after it started.

They are playing soccer for goodness sake!
Building hospitals and schools.
Fallujah looks like any market street in the World. Not a war zone.
They have had elections, a constitutional convention, and there is a functioning democratically elected government.
Saddam Hussein is dead.
The Baath Party no longer exists.
Troop withdrawals have been announced.

They have made all this progress despite demoralization from the Dems in Washington, the Press, and terrorism sponsored by enemy states.

If you say the war is still in progress because we are still being attacked by al Qaeda from time to time, then what you are really saying is that we need to stay.

Thanks for the great analysis on the security policy for the Iraq situation, willhelm. You're exactly right about
the reason we're helping the Iraqi security forces until
they're up to speed. The Iraqis' stepped up after they began to trust the US troops to stay, and made super
progress, in spite of the descension going on the the
Congress

Was Obama even a U.S.Senator in Mar. 2003? I doubt
if he recognizes the threat to our country that terrorists
pose. He may just be talking to gain votes! "Just words"?

People generally believe what is consistent with their ideologies, regardless of what the facts really are, so there's no point in dumping loads of contrary evidence.

Just let me ask you this: Who will (or are) those Iraqi security forces supposed to fight, and who are they supposed to defend?

I think in the long run, supposing you're honest about it, no matter how you divide the "those" against the "they" you will eventually discover that the answer to the above qu...

AL, It's a shame you can only project this. Yet, you probably have not a clue about my ideology.
You are immune to evidence. That is a disease far worse than partisanship.

I'm sorry, the comment wasn't directed at you, but your ideology is not relevant anyway because people generally believe what is consistent with their ideologies, regardless of what the facts really are.

You are immune to evidence.
And I said: "People generally believe what is consistent with their ideologies, regardless of what the facts really are."

I said it in a general context, you said it in a personal context. Why is it that you couldn't see that obvious similarity?

The answer is simple. You filtered out what I said through your own ideolog...
