The first colonists came here because of the religious persecution in Europe. Having experienced the prejudice of a religion-influenced government, it stands to reason that separation of church and state was of primary importance to them.
They did not mean for the country to be Christian; they meant for it to be free.

Is God running for President? Who cares? The Devil is in office and he'd just rig the election yet again.

Ron Paul seems like a good guy. They'd never let him live though.

I'm sure God considers politicians to be beneath his dignity, and his mention, is an example of political attempts to deny direct responsibility.
The Pharisees were 'Political animals' Jesus was a Threat to the 'Status Quo'
Politicians are threatened by the truth, because it makes clear they are liars, with no excuse. The advantage they have held so far is a result of stealth. There are lights shining in the shadows they have cast, and they are losing the ability to hide behind rhetoric.
There was once the belief that political corruption existed. Now we are finding proof, while their eyes are still dimmed by their faith in shadows.

The Religious Wrong wants America to be a theocracy and they are deeply immbeded in our government, when there not getting busted doing Meth and having gay sex. Blackwater’s CEO Erik Prince...is the son of the late Edgar Prince, who before his death a few years ago was one of the biggest funders of the radical right. Prince’s sister Betsy married Dick DeVos, son of Amway co-founder Richard DeVos; the various DeVos foundations are among the most important sources of money for Republicans and the radical right.

Actually, kkcap, most of the settlers who came here for religious reasons came to set up their own pocket theocracies. Rhode Island was a notable exception.

Now we have Mike Huckabee claiming that a majority of the signers of the Declaration of Independence were clergy. Only one of the 58 was an active clergyman at the time of signing and between two and four were former ministers.
