If I had it to do over again, I would definitely homeschool. However, the resources were not so readily available as they are now. Homeschool my grandchildren??....absolutely! They are being indoctrinated, not educated. When save the planet, global warming, recycling, etc...is what I hear when they walk home with me...well, forget it! They are so smart and eager to learn. Reading, writing and arithmetic...add a little musical training, science, compute introduction, etc... But they can't keep it to the basic. The NEA has their agenda, but it is not that of many American parents.

The home schooling stats could also indicate the fear factor becoming more influential. Parents are scared to let kids out of sight for fear of bullying, terrorists, paedophiles, of what is being taught and ( the strongest for me) insane people with ready access to guns. The fears that Johnny will break his arm helping Mrs Brown's cat out of a tree are over - worse luck.

There are hundreds of networks across the countries, for homeschoolers to get in contact with, including those that participate actively with the public schools to enhance elements of their children's education such as sports or musical interest. Parents can now join co-ops with other families to enhance and help each other with ideas or skills they may be lacking (trading time with a parent good in math w...

Boy alanocu, you read me all wrong; or at least you forgot the rest of my words. I didn't want to make a loooong assertion about the article.

I agree with your list to a very large extent except I don't think class sizes are too large. I think there is a lack of discipline in the classrooms.

You mentioned school violence but I'd focus on bullying and intimidation. I'd add sexual predators masking as 'teachers' of which we have had an epidemic here in our state. Most parents send their children to schools expecting them to be safe and protected. Little do they know.

I'm very well aware of homeschooling networks. The public schools are failing the kids; that's why homeschooling is sky...
