Could it be that these fellows are marine model makers? Do they have to be terrorists to be interested in the construction of the boats?

...you mean like the guys from Iran in New York city who were caught videotaping subway tracks, bridges and tunnels? Yeah, I'm sure they are probably model makers too.

Would they be terrorists if they were blue-eyed blonds?

Very well could be. Bottom line: Suspicious behavior attracts attention. Most blond haired blue eyed people don't need to videotape tunnels, bridges and subway tracks unless of course they have a film crew present.

They were acting suspicious.

engaging in other acts that aroused the suspicions of both passengers and crews.
I wonder if blue-eyed blondes would have garnered more media attention. We are so afraid of the label: racial profiling.

I am seriously asking this question: should the suspicious activity not be investigated for fear of the appearance of stereotyping based on a suspect's race?

They are being investigated because they acted suspiciously, not because of their appearance.

BartendingBear, what is so offensive about investigating them? or of labeling the suspicious behavior "[i]poten...

The issue is ideologies/opinions.

Some believe that there are terrorists operating in the US right this moment. The FBI warns us and we take them seriously. Others believe these things are being used for political purposes and that the alerts and warnings should be minimized.

When even Democratic members of Congress, now, acknowledge that the terror threat is very real and current, shouldn't we also?

It appears that the problem lies with the phrase "suspicious". Since many do not trust our security officials and those in charge of our national intelligence, they are more suspicious of them than any possible terrorist threat.

Then members of our Intelligence Agencies, Congress, Homeland Security, our President, and our State law enforcement agencies are a 'buncha wussies'.

I figure they know a lot more about what's going on than I do.

We have a popular bumper sticker in our State: Don't be afraid. Be Alert.

Sounds like common sense to me.

Mousie, I was playing devil's advocate, something fully out of the imagination of Nap. In this case, perhaps it was reasonable... PERHAPS. However, taking a cue from Jatfla, be alert, not paranoid. BushCo. wants us to be paranoid. It fits their political agenda.

Do YOU want to live a paranoid life, always second guessing yourself based on how someone else will understand your innocent actions? How will you react when you innocent action comes under suspicion? Are you willing to submit to inspection, interrogation, and even confinement based on the paranoid fears of others?

No thanks!

Thanks for the response, BB.
However, taking a cue from Jatfla, be alert, not paranoid.
I thought that is what the passengers and crew were doing, being alert. They didn't tackle the two guys, obviously, and beat them with sticks. They just noted the actions and reported it.

Are you willing to submit to inspection, interrogation, and even confinement based on the paranoid fears of others?
What determines paranoia? If you suspect something and are proved right, that's just being alert. But if you suspect something and are proven wrong, what then? I understand advocating using our minds and not letting fear make our decisions. However, I don't see anythi...

I just saw this reported on CNN!!!! But then they had to find an advocate against Muslim assumption.

Now-a-days, people start acting weird (the way these guys were) no matter what they looked like, it needs to be reported. Then let the experts determine if there's need for concern.

Right now, the FBI is concerned...because these guys appear to have disappeared after app. 200 call-in tips. They considered this serious enough to alert the entire Country to be on the look-out.
