As much as the subtext of indignity over this affair is appropriate and shared here ("Let them eat cake"), I cannot deny my desire to indulge in the white asparagus and truffle soup. OMG that sounds delicious!!! While I do love caviar I must observe that I'd prefer caviar on toast points with sour cream to caviar and corn. And if they don't change that drinks menu I'm not going there - I'm more of a whiskey person... Let's get Chef Gordon Ramsey to host the next summit. He'd whip that kitchen with a clue-by-four. Ever had white asparagus? Is it grown in the US? I was in Germany in the spring of '85 traveling with a business group. One night we were taken by our hosts to a very small country hotel for dinner. While the menu was in German I managed to recognize the white asparagus in butter sauce as the choice to make, and was the only one of the group of about 20 to order it, the rest picking more commonly known German dishes, such as schnitzel. When our dinner was served all eyes were on my plate, heaped high with at least a pound and half of mature stalks, each more tender and flavorful than I could possibly describe.
