It is possible to get the fuel from plants and crops like corn and sugar cane; however, that will let these crops price getting crazy and instead of paying money to fossil fuel you may pay more to find something to eat. Also, what is the differences between burning fossil fuels and this green fuels, both of them will give the same CO2 and emission gases. Just a new SCAM. There are other possibilities for biofuels beside corn and sugar. This article mentions pine chips. Switch grass is another alternative. Cellulosic ethanol can probably use many types of vegetative material (lawn clippings and fallen leaves). There are clips on Clipmarks about some gentlemen who invented a box that lies between the emission system and the engine that can sequester harmful gases. Not a scam. It's called science and research. These carbon sources are considered "carbon neutral". See the carbon budget. The problem with biofuels (besides driving up food prices across the board) is that they release chemicals which are far worse than CO2. It is nice to see them working with something that isn't a food product though. There are clips on Clipmarks about some gentlemen who invented a box that lies between the emission system and the engine that can sequester harmful gases. There are problems with every fuel we use. Ethanol produces more ozone precursors than does gasoline for example. It is a matter of weighing the costs. I agree that the less fuel competes with food the better. Nuclear anyone? What are your feelings about nuclear kmcolo? I'd have to say that I am against it since we haven't solved the waste material problem. Homeland Security was going to have us truck it across the nation, or send it by rail to Nevada, but what they weren't openly stating to the press and public was that much of it was going to be unescorted. Some routes took the deliveries straight through metropolitan areas. Sounds ridiculous to me when we were suppose to be worried about someone climbing into a crop duster that was not our own [Bush speak]. I like the agricultural aspect as it seems that more people would be employed in the process. Hopefully providing jobs in third world countries. I'm on the fence wrt nukes. I remember TMI and of course Chernobyl. Present systems are not adequate though. Nuke plants should require active participation to prevent shutdown. There are designs that if the plant is not actively maintained the core gets squelched. But the waste problem persists. |
