ok, so here are my thoughts. kind of indifferent to the deal. it is what it is. what i'm more disappointed in is how celebrated the announcement is within the "web 2.0" community. I guess it kind of saddens me that the annointed leader of the web 2.0 movement has sold out this early in its life. sure, they made some good money and that's cool...can't blame them. but doesn't this kind of serve as a reality check to new companies that even the leaders are just in it to flip it? i can't predict what the fate of Clipmarks will be (good, bad or otherwise), but i guess it just disappoints me that delicious didn't hang in there and try to fight. am i alone in this?

Spot on -- if the poster child of the Web 2.0 phenomenon sells out this early, what are the other budding companies and their potential investors to think?

As this regards Clipmarks, I love what Pete Cashmore said about Clipmarks being a consumer-facing service as opposed to a Web 2.0 play:

To be honest I just congratulated Joshua through the del.icio.us mailing list. For him personally this must be a relief. Don't forget that he was pulling this wagon by himself and there was an enormous load on him. Of course the question is whether Yahoo! will respect his plans to further develop del.icio.us into a stable service. At the time when I used del.icio.us intensely, there were quite a few hiccups that lasted for days, making my linkstream trash.

I hope Yahoo! doesn't treat del.icio.us the way it is doing with Flickr, with complicated sign-in procedures and spoiling its image.

All that put aside: for the moment I'd like to focus my passion on Clipmarks, as your service really is...

I'm not sure if I'm surprised by the announcement or not. I never got on that band wagon because, to be honest, I hated the UI. It neve seemed intuitive. I understand and appreciate what it did for the social-tagging movement. I not only like the functionality of a service, but its design and ease of use. I think that's why I never got into Flickr, but enjoy using Shutterbook.

cozer was just saying that yahoo is bad in management -- i'm curious to know how the Flickr user experience has changed since Yahoo! bought them. Any pre and post-acquisition Flickr users out there?

Biggest change, honestly, was requiring Yahoo IDs. I'm sure somewhere Yahoo is targeting ads at me b/c of my Flickr tags.

cozer, i actually think it's just begun. the fact that web 2.0 was anchored to delicious was not a healthy thing as it excluded to big a part of the online community. that's not what web 2.0 should be about.

it seems like the larger companies are snapping up traffic venues to add to their traffic generating tool cache. thats the way the adult industry workong the web - generate traffic centers using(porn) and purely by the nature of it you will make money - the only different with mainstream sites is you need to have contextual targetted ads or something along those lines to introduce the profit.

i wrote some lines in german about yahoo buying del.icio.us and social bookmarking in general. read it here: http://rainonline.ws/2005/12/11/yahoo-kauft-delicious-nachschlag/

I don't like Delish, Flikr and most blogs. I am fairly active with Yahoo but that is only because I've been with them for so long. Web2.0 is emerging and I believe it will go a long way but I don't think Delish or flikr are foundations. They are more like current celebrities. Celebrities 'fade away'.
As for Clipmarks, I like the founding fathers, the 'Four Corners' and I think Clipmarks will outlast and overtake both flikr and delish because of their passion for this creation. As more people are exposed to the benefits of Clipmarks it will grow and get more, better features. Why?
The Four Founding Fathers. Face it- You got a winner here. Listen to the users and make it simple and soon Clipmarks will be as common as bookmarks.
