This ridiculous church put a humongazillion dollars into obstructing same sex marriage at all costs and they actually live with themselves. Well, live with themselves AND all those other wives. Shame on them!

Is there any distinct reason that gay marriage and polyamory should be illegal beyond the opinions of religious organizations? (disregarding economic benefits which can be remedied by updated laws that were put in place without the consideration of such a situation)

Exactly, Truth. Any marriage "under law" is no more than a "domestic partnership contract" anyway. Or should be if there were a true separation of church and state. marry in church, file your contract under law. It's pretty freaking simple.

Polygamy was the norm in much of biblical times, but in the times after Christ, attitudes changed, and humans twisted and changed Religion to suit their ever-changing ideals and mores. Saying that a religion defines such-and-such as being a marriage and nothing else is intellectually dishonest and self-indulgent.

Marriages, and what should be allowed, should be determined by civil authorities, not religious ones. If people want to have a Catholic Marriage, or a Protestant Marriage, or a Mormon Marriage, or any other flavour of religious blessing of a union, then feel free.
