enbar says: I never heard this routine until Carlin died. It's pretty brilliant. If you're religious and easily offended, don't read it. The loss of George's clear thinking is as great as the loss of the laughs he gave us. While no comic can ever really take his place I sure hope we can find another one with his attitude and insight. All you have to do is read the first 2 chapters of the Bible and the last 2. God made everything good. At the end of time God has restored everything to good, and will wipe away every tear. What happended in between the good beginning and the good end? Go ahead. You have time. Find a Bible and read for a few minutes. Humankind screwed it when they listened to the voice of Satan and turned away from God, as described in Genesis 2. Lets quit blaming God for the bad choices we have all made. He/God tells us to listen to Him. Instead our human nature seems to be to not only NOT listen to His word, but then to blame Him for the consequences when we don't. This applies to me, too, but thankfully I now listen to Him, not the other guy. He always found the handle on the most difficult subjects to grasp, then he would proceed to hit you over the head with it. He will always live, in my heart. I will miss him for the light he shown.. George was more blessed than most of us ever hoped to be, caring about his fellow humans and the enviroment that we created for ourselves. I am a devout catholic, George would never offend me. Lewis Black once asked George for career advice, he said write it down, refine it, and write some more. The most caring man I ever knew was an atheist, spent his money on the community, never asked for anything in return, did not want his name mentioned, when he passed, his send-off was by a catholic bishop, a rabbi, and two baptist ministers, his name was also George; it has to be something in the name. Great clip. Carlin's right, the world's fucked up. But it isn't God. It's never been God. It's George Carlin, and you, and me, we're the fucked up ones. And the root of the problem? None of us wants to admit it. None of us what's to look somewhere for help. None of us wants to own the incredible potential in every heart for pride, selfishness, and greed. George was making choices everyday, and his choices and my choices and your choices are what keep the world as fucked up as it is. George should have tried less for laughs and more for truth. The two go together. E. B. White wrote, "Laughter plans close to the big hot fire that is truth." George was off balance this time. |
