debbyski says: One morning, as they marched out to lay railroad ties in the frozen ground miles from the camp, the accompanying guards kept shouting and driving them with the butts of their rifles. Anyone with sore feet supported himself on his neighbour’s arm. The man next to Frankl, hiding his mouth behind his upturned collar, whispered,”If our wives could see us now! I hope they are better off in their camps and don’t know what is happening to us. Frankl writes,”That brought thoughts of my own wife to mind. And as we stumbled on for miles, slipping on icy spots, supporting each other time and again, dragging one another up and onward, nothing was said, but we both knew: each of us was thinking of his wife. Occasionally I looked at the sky, where the stars were fading and the pink light of the morning was beginning to spread behind a dark bank of clouds. But my mind clung to my wife’s image, imagining it with an uncanny acuteness." Moving and inspiring clip debs thank you deb, this is a great clip, and thats why i like you.. Only people who suffer can grow into beauty wildcat I've seen glimpses of it and it is a beauty beyond belief. I am not sure that "only" people who suffer can grow into beauty, but it is definitely one of the ways to get there, but is it necessary? I hope not This clip has the power to change rather hum-drum lives into great lives, as does most of the writings of Victor Frankl. Very moving. Thanks Debby. Mega, debs. Totally mega. is it necessary?Probably. But then I speak from personal experience. How can one see beauty without first knowing ugliness? A year later the war broke out and robbed the world of its beauties. It destroyed not only the beauty of the countrysides through which it passed and the works of art which it met in its path but also shattered our pride in the achievements of civilization, our admiration for many philosophers and artists and our hopes for a final triumph over the differences between nations and races. It tarnished the lofty impartiality of science, it revealed our instincts in all their nakedness and let loose the evil spirits within us which we thought had been tamed for ever by centuries of continuous education by the noblest minds. It made our country small again and made the rest of the world far remot... How can one see beauty without first knowing ugliness?Maybe if we accept that beauty and ugliness are not fundamentally opposites? maybe if we accept the naive view that beauty is fundamental to perception whilst ugliness is contextual? I am not certain there is an answer to this question but i surely hope that we can evolve into beings to which pleasure of perception, beauty, is natural and ugliness is not.. but then i'm an optimistic A thought transfixed me:That's just what this chicklet needed, Deb, a kick in the butt and a solid reminder and realignment with the priority in life. I now think love is bold, brazen and brash. It does not cower away in corners. You've taught me a thing or three, Deb. Thanks, sweetie, and good find. Debby, your clip brought me to tears! Beautiful and sad at the same time. Well, we all see things in opposites I guess wildcat; good and evil, right and wrong, friend and foe. And it leaves little thinking for gray areas I guess. But then., my whole life has been a gray area. To evolve into a being where we easily find the beauty in all things: what a concept, eh? @Michellezm, Now it is your turn to teach me a thing or two with your clips. Don't make me wait too much longer. Thank you for the clip debbyski, There is always a middle between opposites. I'll keep it short. Depth perception is a result of two eyes, each sending different info to the brain. The brain doesn't make a decision to judge the input of one over the other in essence saying "I believe you but not you." It allows an interference pattern to form giving us a sense of depth also the stuff in between has to be the most important otherwise Nabisco wouldn't be making double stuffed Oreo cookies. = mmmmm . . . . I luv double stuffed Oreo cookies . . . |
