In a follow-up piece, Begley considers the thinking behind this bizarre trend. She spoke to sociologist Steven Hoffman who explained, "Rather than search rationally for information that either confirms or disconfirms a particular belief, people actually seek out information that confirms what they already believe." For the most part, he added, "people completely ignore contrary information" and are able to "develop elaborate rationalizations based on faulty information."

Most people base things on facts. There are lots of facts that support the ills of the present universal health care plan like, how do we pay for it, for a starter.

Majorities in the poll believe the plans would give health insurance coverage to illegal immigrants
The Congressional Research Service concluded that, "H.R. 3200 does not contain any restrictions on noncitizens - whether legally or illegally present, or in the United States temporarily or permanently - participating in the Exchange." The exchange includes the "public option." So I guess congress' own research service fell for that 'myth' too?

would lead to a government takeover of the health system
Seems some people have been listening to what the leadership in DC has been saying.

<As for the House bill as it stands now, it’s a matter of fact that it would allow both a "public plan" and newly subsidized private plans to cover all abortions.>

Three decades ago Australian women won the right to terminate a pregnancy. The result: Australian women no longer have to die from botched illegal abortions. Meanwhile in the US women are still being found with knitting needles stuck inside them or bleeding to death after undergoing backyard abortions.

Where is the outcry from Right To Lifers / the Christian Right (ie those who believe it's their right to carry a deadly weapon and shoot innocent creatures in the name of their deity) about the US foreign policy which has contri...

There is also more public talk, since the "got-it-wrong Wilson," incident, that racism is also behind this irrationality.

Never before has a Congressperson shouted out that the President was a "liar," during a speech before the Joint Session of Congress...and the man who said that is a member of a Rebel Confederate organization....which can be okay but also can attract racist....and he, Wilson, was the person who was the liar or who got his facts wrong.

So it's not "facts," behind all this disruption, rudeness, confrontational politics, but hateful feelings.

Plus, Republicans will do and say anything to bring down the president.

So would an ex-Klansman calling out this administration on the excessive use of czars also be racist in your book?

"he excessive use of czars " - ha.
Another sham, fabricated non-issue.

Not gonna answer the question?

Why are right-wing nut jobs inciting violence, disrupting meetings and speeches and trying to tear down the President on innocuous issues that don't warrant so much venom - that's the question.

That's also the topic of the clip.

Why n2sooners wants to start another factious topic, well, that's another question.

The whole point of the clip is to say conservatives are lying about the health care plan. They use an NBC poll showing how many believe what they call lies. I have already shown that those three points they believe are lies or myths are actually facts and most Americans know it. Your defense is the only one liberals seem to know how to use lately and that is to jump in calling everyone who disagrees with you a racist. I asked you one simple question regarding that term those of you on the left seem to like to throw around so much and you have avoided the question. I addressed the topic of the clip. You are the one who brought racism into the discussion.

Yes, the topic was a question about why right-wing nut jobs are going off the reservation and beyond the pale.

Racism, many now feel, is one of the reasons.

Desire for Republican victory in 2010 certainly another reasons.

Corporations wanting to protect profits a third obvious reason.

Warmongers and zionist extremist wanting to continue their aggression also involved.

For a fifth reason I'd have to say some of these critics (like "got it wrong Wilson) are JERKS.

Someone is a JERK, imo, when they lie to call another person a liar. Wilson is a jerk, lying, got his facts wrong, and he accused another person of lying...

Debunked already.

And the rest of you post pretty much goes off the deep end.

One closing point. If Wilson was wrong, why did the White House on Friday throw it's support behind an ID check that republicans had previously tried to add to the bill (voted down by party line vote)? If Wilson were wrong, then no further steps would have been needed. The president said those suggesting such ideas were lies before Joe called him out on his lies. Barry was wrong, Joe was right.

Folks may enjoy some of the cartoons and videos on my Political Action News website this week ( at: www.americancitizenstogether.org ) -- it shows the right wing nut jobs in action.

Wilson was wrong. It was already clearly stated in health care reform legislation that it was for citizens only.

But with scam and weasel thinking he ignored those facts and fabricated a false issue that perhaps this wording was not strong enough -- one Senate committee has indeed given some consideration to that for the common reason of just making it clear and removing any possibility for more Republican lies and distortions, like Death Panels, federal funds being used for abortions, other such Republican lie...

citizenbfk..thanks for the link. The Stewart vids are not only hilarious but illuminating in their comparison with Fox's reporting of the anti-war and the Tea Bag demos. Too bad their streaming vids can't be clipped.
