Do Holsinger's religious opinions disqualify him from being a surgeon general? Or does he have some sort of bias against gays and lesbians? Do we have the right to expect that our physicians should be professional in all aspects of our health and sexuality?

You can't expect a member of some bizarre religious group to be free of bias. As this sect rules his life, so will the bias rule the decisions.

The Surgeon General is supposed to be a science educator, someone who informs the public about medicine and health-related issues. The fact that this nominee has abused science previously to bash homosexuals is a sign this is yet another unqualified nominee being advanced to a scientific position for political reasons.

In other words, there should be a religious litmus test and religious conservatives should be banned from holding political office.

No person should be allowed to hold public office if controlled by outside interests other than the constituents.
