<<<But the problem here is not that Dawkins is speaking outside his own specific area of expertise - for doing so is in fact essential if knowledge and debate is not to be confined into hermetically sealed compartments - but in the lack of the humility and the perspicacity (in effect, the judgment) to recognise the necessary limits of his knowledge.

This is more than just an attitudinal failure: it reflects a broader gap in our shared understanding of knowledge itself. Knowledge is a complex and demanding system in which the terra incognita is as important (perhaps even more important) than more familiar territory. If we want to draw on or contribute to that system, a cartographic faculty i...

Knowledge of methodology, of the mechanics of discourse and rhetoric, is a powerful tool that anyone can bring to areas where one is not an expert. Indeed, the most powerful form of knowledge is transferable knowledge - the very knowledge of how to navigate the map of knowledge.
I think that statement makes his (Dawkin's) case. Of that, he is well within his expertise. He has a keen understanding of the "method" of obtaining knowledge, without respect to the area of which it is applied.

It is the "map" ("..that, as it explores the contours, moves towards a greater sense of how knowledge is formed..") which he addresses well within his expertise.

That map (or methodology) ca...

"For the word of the cross is to those who are perishing foolishness, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.

For it is written,'I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, And the cleverness of the clever I will set aside.'

Where is the wise man?Where is the debater of 'this age'? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world?....................

For since the wisdom of God the world through it's wisdom did not come to know God, God was well pleased with the foolishness of the message preached to those who believe.

For indeed Jews ask for signs, and Greeks search for wisdom,
but we preach Christ crucified, to Jews a stumbling block, and to Gentiles foolishness.-1cor1:18-23

Or is it from being "impressive" that you get your life-force?

agreed FTfriend! pop 4 AcesLucky comment.

and pop 4 abailart thought provoking clip.
Btw, just finished read this book -)) No doubt Dawkins, at times, uses quite a bold way in articulating his ideas .
Yet, he also performs a brilliant way of pronouncing his unique observations on these well established yet so vague & ambiguous territories of mind such as: the human system of belief, faith & the concept of God.

agreed.

and yes, that which "is not said", thus located at the backstage, should be concidered as vital as relevant projector of that which "sounds", at the front.

Oh!..I see what this is....It's a game!
Let us not be caught defending ourselves lest we be thought a fool and dropped from the ranks of the "brotherhood" as trash is tossed from a moving car. Nothing left to do but shoot yourself in the head.

If this isn't the grandest picture of countless lives coursing downward into a spiralling pit of darkness, I don't know what is!...... So, you have created your own hell, congratulations!!
