Now, granted, as an old school punk rocker, I've made my own fair share of "hunting whiny country music singers for sport" jokes, but this crosses the line in a really creepy way.

It seems like this is a movement to totally wipe them out!

This surreal violence puts the artistry of music in an entirely new context. I for one am going to try to find and buy their albums as much as possible.

From what little I have been able to glean from my wanderings through the news there was a finance theme underlying at least some of the killings. It appears that, at least some, of the singers had their careers seeded with drug money. Now that may not be true for all of them and now it is just becoming a fad among the thugs to take down a singer.

Sure they seeded their careers with drug money, but heck, so did Sinatra. I mean, most American musicians seeded their careers directly with drugs!

Imagine what would happen if drugs and music couldn't peacefully coexist? What would be left?

There wasn't supposed to be a hint of judgment in my response, just the underlying reasons behind the murders. From what I can tell they were deals gone bad. The drug link adds context and the murders become less random within that context.

Oh, I know you weren't judging them. I was. At the risk of being marked for savage execution, I would like to say that the Mexican Drug Cartells are behaving in an entirely uncivilized manner. After all, I would imagine that musicians of all kinds are some of their best customers.

All kidding asside, this is exactly why we need to legalize drugs and put these criminal syndicates out of business. This is erily similar to the kind of rampant crime and violence that thrived during Prohibition. The most dangerous thing is that unreasonable laws cultivate a permisive attitude towards crime and violence.

Or more to the point, legalize drugs so that we can put them into business. "Respectable" business that is. Then they can give bribes (campaign contributions) to our government officials over the table like all the other respectable businesses unlike under the table today.

I suspect that the (illegal) drug businesses are attempting to teach a few people a few things about who controls what and get people back into line.
