Most of us go through life with routines. We wake up every day, go to school/work and do the same mundane things over and over that we're expected/told to do. It gives us a sense of certainty, it's less risky, it's what's expected of us. But I think it's something we have to break out of in order to improve ourselves. We need to break out of our comfort zone. And that's how you'll become smarter.

A routine can be the result of finding a way of doing things that works, and repeating it. This can be all right for a few things, but most things can improve, while a routine can make improvement seem unnecessary. There is the problem of being so set in a routine, that when a routine had an unexpected twist, there can be less ability to adapt. Routine can close the eyes to improvement, because there can be the fear that the change will be for the worst. Sometimes someone can be aware of the limitations of routine, feeling they are unable to escape it,sometimes called a rut.
