Constant vigilance is needed to combat these lying, snake-oil salesmen from interjecting their brand of theology into science classes.

The point is children must be taught that there is more than one option. Remember the 'missing link', the theory of evolution still has not been proven, it is still a Theory, albeit the strongest theory out there.

I don't think you understand how scientists use the term theory.

This site explains it quite well.

In everyday use, theory means a guess or a hunch, something that maybe needs proof.
In science, a theory is not a guess, not a hunch. It's a well-substantiated, well-supported, well-documented explanation for our observations.2
It ties together all the facts about something, providing an
explanation that fits all the observations and can be used to make
predictions. In science, theory is the ultimate goal, the explanation. It's as close to proven as anything in science can be.

I owe you one John. And thanks for the link. It's one I haven't seen before. Should come in handy as this problem with people not understanding what a scientific theory is seems to be pretty wide spread. Unfortunately, I've not had much success in illuminating the ones who chose to ignore what's pointed out to them if it weakens their position.

Thanks John, my hair curled when I saw that too often used misconception of "theory" with evolution. That is such a fundamental misunderstanding that it sets my teeth on edge that so many people are ignorant of it.

Not only are they merely ignorant of it Oort, but they consistently refuse to acknowledge it and use the same tired argument time and time again. This is direct and utter proof that they are willing to lie and use whatever means at their disposal to further their religious (supposedly moral and ethical) beliefs. And people then accuse us of being radical, belligerent, or angry when confronted with such blatant hypocrisy. That's what I find truly incredible.
