rvnurse2b says: The censoring of Christians by atheists or secular humanists IS religious discrimination! Sorry rvnurse2b, I think you're confusing a legal definition for atheism and secular humanism with a functional definition. Also, it depends greatly on how you define "religion". In a loose sense it could be defined as just about anything that you have an intense interest in. How it relates to a deity is a completely different matter. In that regard it expressly implies worship of a god or gods. And I think censoring is too harsh a critique to apply. I think what we're seeing is a curtailing of Christian privilege in a multicultural society. So you're comment has left me unconvinced. Further, speaking of definitions, any particular religion is usually marked by the practice of standardized rituals and practices of some sort. I know of no such practices in the "religion" of atheism, other than the common notion among atheists of the rejection of a deity. As to the supposed censoring of Christians by atheists in our society today, I as an individual have a right to discriminate against any other individual I choose as regards my personal choice and self. Efforts I may put forth to prevent any individual or group from imposition of their views, values, and practices on my day to day life would be not be censorship, but rather my effort to maintain the right of individual f... If Atheism is a religion, then: Health is a disease. Not playing cards is a hobby. 'Bald' is a hair color. Not collecting stamps is a hobby. A court made abortion legal. Judges were not meant to make laws, but that is the way it works in practice. I am not saying that I agree that this is a just decision, just that it was decided. If what we are seeing is a "curtailing of Christian privilege" that amounts to religious discrimination all the same. It is a taking away of some of the rights of a religious group. They do it to Satanists and Wiccans too- This is just as wrong. If we are to have freedom of religion- it needs to be for EVERY religion. If atheism is not a religion, then there is no defense for their "right" to keep religious speech, and symbols out of the public square. Instead of freedom of speech in our country, no... A court made abortion legal. A court made abortion legal. Judges were not meant to make laws, but that is the way it works in practice.Actually the legislature did that. A court ruled on the legality of the law which is their duty. I guess what you are implying is the right-wing's complaint of "activist judges". Sorry, I don't buy into that bit of political sloganeering. If what we are seeing is a "curtailing of Christian privilege" that amounts to religious discrimination all the same. How so? Do you understand the meaning of privilege? I agree that by your perception some of your "rights" are being taken away. Actually, what is happening is that the Constitution is being uphel... atheism is a religion? war is peace, ignorance is strength, and atheism is a religion. brilliant! (meaning STUPID - get it?) If what we are seeing is a "curtailing of Christian privilege" that amounts to religious discrimination all the same.I don't think so, dear. Stopping christians from cramming their propaganda and religious imagery and symbolism down the throats of the rest of us; whether following other faiths or no faith at all, isn't discrimination. It is exactly as described, a "curtailing of christian privilege" The proof is in the pudding, so to speak. You all are so accustomed to your freaking privilige, that you feel discriminated against when anyone attempts top curtail a tiny speck of your privilige. |
