There is so much of it that it is impossible to imagine just how much that really is.Whenever I ride past the Public Library and see what an imposing edifice it is, filled with 1,000s upon 1,000s of books, I realize what a waste of time, space, and money it is, because everything that is in that library, I can access from my computer with just a few clicks of the mouse. The Internet has become our Technological Library of Alexandria, where all man's knowledge now exists in cyberspace. Yes, but the pleasure of sitting with a book in hand, some beverage by my side, my feet up, maybe a blanket over my feet and legs, in a warm house in the winter cannot be replaced by sitting in front of a monitor. Same with the Sunday paper. Yes, books take up space, but reading a book for pleasure that one can hold in your hands and turn the pages is priceless. As I age, they become more and more one of life's greatest pleasures. |
