chestnut501 says: Zooming in on the Universe's First Starlight: "Everything Else Came After This" at least within reach of Earth. He-he-he-he How absolutely fascinating...................... Wow! Another misleading Caption ... You know, all this stuff is over my head (I'm pretty short), but I love it anyway. I probably don't want to know the answer, but how do they know? they know due to the value of the redshift, the greater the value of redshift, the longer the light has taken to get to us. so far, this is the greatest redshift value recorded from any star/event http://cecelia.physics.indiana.edu/life/redshift.html "Big bang cosmology is both a profoundly beautiful, and disturbing, model for our universe, its shape and its destiny. It contains many surprises which have yet to be completely worked-out. But one feature of the evolving universe seems absolutly clear, the big bang was not some grand fireworks display, but an event of a completely different order. It resembled more an expanding soap bubble film upon which galactic dust motes are carried along for the ride. This film represents the totality of all the space and matter in our universe, and it expands into a mysterious primordial void which is itself empty of space, dimension, time or mat... I see no reason to question the red shift nor do I feel that it rules out other possibilities. I do believe that if mankind is to ever "discover" God, based on reality instead of faith, it will be science that does it. In the meantime, I like to think of this new discovery as a kind of cosmic miracle, the first light. None of us have all the answers, giving us the freedom to believe whatever we please. That in itself is a thing of beauty. Hi. I went to a day of astrophysics lectures a while back and the thing that I remember most is the one on rethinking or modifying earlier theories about expansion, redshift and doppler effect.. The bit I pasted above is the end of a physics based paper, There is some fascinating (but hard to clip) stuff available on the web about how especially over the past couple of decades new data has suggested a need to reconsider earlier stuff. I still think the clip itself is very good and that data interpreted through earlier theory is still relevant. (It's interesting when looking at some of the newer ideas about the cosmos scientists disagree with each other and alternative theories abound: this, ... Thanks to chestnut, The Truth and abailart for increasing my layperson's knowledge of astrophysics. I'm not sure that science will lead to God, but Chestnut, your view is worth considering. Great clip as always. zizzy, thanks for the nice compliment. You've been missed around here. I hope you're going to stick around for awhile. We need the sane people here to balance things out..... Science blogs are dime-a-dozen and not all of them are trustworthy or carry a genuine wow effect. Here's one similar story from 2002 http://science.nasa.gov/headlines/y2002/08feb_gravlens.htm BTW, not to suggest there's anything wrong with this clip/news (except may be the title which is subjective). Perhaps I am guilty of throwing a little "stardust" around, not for a "wow" effect but more for a "thought provoking" effect. Well, Well Well - Now THIS clip can be pondered, (and inevitably IS pondered) eternally (!!!) by the UNIVERSAL MIND which is all of us ponderers - newly "conglomerated" via the evolved Miracle of CyberSpacial INTERNET (via "CLIPMARKS" oh best beloved) Yes - I intend to return to this to study, Meditate and Ponder More - it is a healthy sort of thinking task, good stuff, man Good Stuff indeed !! Ta, like - - Begin With - - I noticed on Abailarts first comment, something that I immediatly Liked and related to - about Big Bang Theaory being "Profoundly Beautiful AND(!) Disturbing" Yes - I feel and think the same way as fa... |
