I genuinely believe that new words need to be invented to adequately convey the sadness and brutality of our times. I guess things like this have always been going on in various parts of the world and it's a product of the internet that becoming we're more aware of it. I just hope that with this awareness there will come change. It's because of my hope that awareness can bring change that i'm going to pop this clip.

Cultures that promote this have been doing so for hundreds of years, it is nothing new. Maybe that's why they keep their populace in the dark. They don't want them to see the other side of life and question why they have been denied all it could offer.

If you send 10,000 men to kill this 1000, amongst this 10,000 you’ll soon get a new 1000 with tendency for similar brutality and stupidity! You will start to produce new mentally sick people!
To kill the killers is not a solution, it is reproduction of killing! It is reproduction of mental state which lies behind of this kind of brutality. You are upset because of their brutality, but there is similar basic force into your mind when you thinking about “removing” them as it were in their minds when killed this poor girl on such disgraceful way. This basic force is present in every person in some degree and we need to understand it and deal with it on positive way.

Hmm....good point enbar. The difference is anonymity, I think. This girl is someone. The dead and dying in the war are just numbers to most, not faces, not people. I think that has a lot to do with it. People can identify with a single individual, but not with obscure numbers and massive death tolls. She's no more dead than the war victims. She's just shown to us for what she is and for all to see and that is, a person. A victim. An innocent. This girl's death seems so much more brutal than "just" dropping bombs, but the thousands of innocent dead are still dead, no matter which way you choose to kill them. Her death is no more appalling than the deaths of the thousands of othe...

Why doesn't anyone speak up about it when condoned by the god of the bible?

In fact, it's how you're supposed to kill your own children or wife should they decide to worship another god.

And if anyone around you, family members, children, whatever, try to convince you that you should worship another god, you must KILL THEM with your hand; you must stone them to death! (Deuteronomy 13:7-11)

Oh, and by the way, if you're not up to the task, you too must be slain! (Deuteronomy 17:12-13)

READ THE BOOK: King James Version; others have been rewritten so much to smooth out the errors and gloss over the evil. Read King James to get the full xxx-rated version (for violence).

It's not. No matter what version you read, the New Testament (not the old testament) does not condone killing ANYONE, not even your enemies, for any reason. The old testament (prior to the birth and lifetime of Jesus) was full of horrible things like you quoted. After Jesus was born (the new testament) all those barbaric customs and laws were done away with by Jesus himself. I have not found any such passages in the New Testament to date that says man should rise up against man, for any reason. If they are there, I must have missed them please show me where they are? Thanks.

This is Horrible. In regards to the anti-Bible comments.

The Old Testament was fulfilled and surpassed by Jesus' ministry. Jesus' one commandment was to "Love one another, in this you will fulfill all the commandments of God".

And certainly stoning would not pass muster for a Christian, nor would any Christian do it. This is still a Muslim practice.

My bad; I was told the bible was god's word. And since god is supposed to be all knowing, I can't fathom why a perfectly all-knowing being would change his mind when his incarnated self (as Jesus) contradicted his own dictates while as a spirit.

And what did Jesus mean when he said [sic], "Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword. For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law." ...

You bring up good points, duly noted. I am no theologist by any means, I just remember what I read.

Why did Christ instruct His disciples to get swords? To assure the fulfillment of the prophecy in Isaiah 53:12 (which He had inspired and now quoted). He was to be considered a lawbreaker (“transgressor”). He was not endorsing the use of weapons for the purpose of harming other people (whether in self-defense or otherwise). In verse 51 of Luke 22, we see that when Peter drew a sword and strike the High Priest’s servant, Christ chastised him for his actions. He then healed the man by re-attaching his ear, which Peter had cut off.

Jesus used the term 'Sword' earlier when referring to peop...

I don't understand how people who do this someone can justify it to themselves. What conversation are they having with themselves in their heads?

Having a relationship with someone of another religion is WORSE than killing someone? What moral scale are they using to make this decision?

We discussed this clip, and the potential for change that comes with new technologies like cameraphones and internet video, on Monday's clipiversity. A mob can deny that any one person was involved, but cameraphones don't lie.

Jesus used the term 'Sword' earlier when referring to people in general. He was coming 'as a sword' to form a wedge between people, families and even husband and wife.
So it was all just a figure of speech, then. Right? And I took it out of context.

Then let's cut to the chase. Does Jesus contradict the god of the old testament?

Good thinking! When one affirms that some text or book is given from God, it is funny logical discrepancy; it is simple: you must be on God level to know which words are from God and which are from human. If you are human, you have no competent level of intelligence for this kind of affirmation!
Furthermore an affirmation that God is infallible Supreme Being belongs to the same logical discrepancy. If you are human being – you are too limited to know that for sure.
What if God is an outcome of evolution on level so high that is incomprehensible for us...? What if God is Supreme Being which is still into development on his own level and has some limitations on his own level…?
And first of all...
5-9-2007 1:48 PM

discrepancies in “sacred books” are no proof that there is no God, they
are only proof that human being is fallible by definition.
Discrepencies may not be proof that there is no god, but they ARE proof that no god wrote them. These books are simply not the word or inspiration of any infallible god.

From another point of view you can say in this way:
The Uneducated + Religion =
Idiots who throw stones;
The Educated + Non-religion = Idiots who launch rockets and throw bombs.
Deduction: You don’t need to be uneducated and religious to be an idiot (to lose touch with common sense).

I watched a documentary just last night on a German TV chain, a young girl in Iran who was accused of "frequent promiscuous" activities. At 16, she was hung, publicly, with the commom (in Iran) use of a mobile crane. The law in Iran states that under 20 years of age, no capital punishment is allowed! How can any Company/Government or individual have anything to do with depraved, power crazed religious maniacs, who don't even respect their own Islaamic laws? The judge in question (religious,of course)has since been promoted! Dude - that is total separate issue. Your point is a non starter, totally irrelevant, as this clip has sweet FA to do with war.

Totally irrelevant? You can't be serious!
I said simply this: here many people blame religious relationship of this people for their cruelty. But cruelty has very little with this or that religious (or nonreligious) view or whatever; it is all about human stupidity and ignorance which has roots much more into violent history of human race than into this or that type of ideology.
I pointed that man who throw stones on another human is not crueler as man who push buttons and launch rockets to kill another human. Yes, definitely the first one looks more idiotic and cruel, because we can see his act and an outcome of his act. On the contrary the second one maybe looks even very elegant and brigh...

Agreed!

Bad people come in all creeds and colours. One mustn't fail to see the peck in one's own eye, before pointing out the log in another's. Evil and cruelty are traits attributable to man, regardless of religion, national borders, gender and so on...

Bombs or stones or knives or guns, makes no difference. There is no nice way to kill someone and "our" way is no more righteous than theirs. Evil is evil.

To Phillipo, I can only hope that if there is a court to answer to, that these people have a damned good reply, for I have no wish to spend eternal life with such maniacs (nor with the spirits of all the flies and mosquitoes I've murdered in my life)!
To those who ramble on about theological (mainly Christian) things, I would only say the same thing, and refer them to the 14/15/16/17/18/19 centuries in a so called "civilised" Western culture!

May one ask your origins? If you are insinuating that ALL the reports are "tricked" then say so - that way we can all appreciate (and possibly respect) your point of view.No one, I repeat, no one, of any so called religious belief can, may or should accept any form of torture, injustice, or other manner of imposition, in the name of ANY god. discrepancies in beliefs or viewpoints in life as you would have it make up these atrocities.

when one person thinks another person is wrong, he justifies his own actions by his own standards.

we see those 1000 men as bastards, yet in their eyes they saw that girl as the bitch. its not about numbers. a thousand men could be evil in our eyes. on the other hand in their eyes there was only one evil girl.

Bravo, luminaeris for your voice of reason!
Additional question for me is: are all those 1000 men totally alike in their disgusting cruelty? It is likely that one part (how big part…?) of them was there only because they were forced to be there. In that kind of society if you say: “I don’t want to go to be part of this execution!” it can easily bring you terrible problems or even the death penalty.
You can always and everywhere find some seek persons thirsty for blood and eager to kill. And you can always and everywhere find people who will say or at least think for themselves, that torturing and killing is wrong and unhealthy thing.

I don't care what the Christian Bible says about stoning. i.e. "Then Moses spoke to the Israelites, and they took the blasphemer outside the camp and stoned him. The Israelites did as the LORD commanded Moses".
Leviticus 24:22-23 (in Context) Leviticus 24 " I don't care what the Koran says about it. I know that watching that girl die rocked me to the core of my soul. I hope God has a special place in paradise for her. She deserved much better then this world could ever give her.

All of you who are arguing the tenets of various religions - get a clue. There has been more death, torture and inhumanity "in the name of god" (fill in whatever deity you care to) than any political premise.

Organized religion is mob mentality.

Get out of your church (or mosque, or synagogue or whatever) and practice your spirituality in real life.

This poor girl fell to the mob mentality of organized religion. It has been happening ever since there WAS organized religion.

My heart goes out to that poor girl; but my hatred goes to the organized religions that foster such violence. Catholics, don't get smug (nor the protestants nor the jews) those religions have ALL done worse. And s...
