pokkets says: Australia's rarest marsupial, 80% of the wild population which is fewer than forty. are infected with a form of syphilis similar to the one found in rabbits. Antibiotics are being trialled on it's nearest relative. That is terrible terrible news. How did it come to so few potoroo? (Oh dear...........that rhymes) are all species of potoroo endangered or just the Gilbert's potoroo? I think there are four types of potoroo, while the others may have more numbers, often their habitats are disappearing, or are they are threatened by introduced predators such as feral cats, and rats. There are 380 animal species on the endangered or threatened list. |
