Wow. We've already seen advances with carbon nanotubes and applications of nanotech in many industries, but this is something totally different. Bottom up assembly...

I'm going to mark today on the calendar, as the moment when it all began. I've been waiting for this announcement since reading Eric Drexler's piece in Analog magazine back around 1990.

(<EM>Nanowerk News</EM>) The first real steps towards building a microscopic device that can construct nano machines have been taken by US researchers. Gorman and his colleagues at NIST have taken a novel approach to building a nanoassembler and reveal details in a forthcoming issue of the <EM>International Journal of Nanomanufacturing</EM>.
