Not allowed to use the word vagina? How did they expect the girls to do a presentation of "The Vagina Monologues" without it?

Maybe they didn't want the girls to do the presentation.

It's a scientific word, would they rather students used lewd street words instead?

*LMAO*

I felt like opening all the windows and screaming out the word VAGINA too, just to totally cement the fact that we have free speech and that VAGINA is not a dirty word. I didn't though. My neighbours think I'm weird enough as it is, I reckon. *LOL*

Agree...my first instinct was to create a clip that includes all sorts of references to the word Vagina from various sources on the web and email it to this school.

Now that i think of it, i'm off to create a vagina clip.

School principal Rich Leprine said the punishment meted out to the students was not for using the word vagina but rather for insubordination.
Um, and they were being insubordinate by doing what?

PS: the title says it all... "Students punished over V-word"

Not even the paper will use the word...

I guess they could have substituted the word "penis" to show how ridiculous this all is.

Check out this clip and this NY Times story. A book was pulled from children's libraries because it used the word "scrotum."

Then check this out:
Back in the 70's when my daughter was in second grade she raised her hand for permission to go to the bathroom. The young first-year teacher asked her if she needed to go "number one or number two."
My daughter replied, "Neither, my vagina itches and I need to scratch it, then wash my hands."
I received a call...

This sounds like a backdoor way of punishing the girls for doing the play in the first place. If they had banned the play, it would have been decried as an attempt to suppress feminism, so they tried to make it about obscenity. I've seen enough stories of this kind to know that school administrators are often not the brightest people on the planet.

It is really stupid, but too bad the student advisor or drama teacher didn't get creative with some way to present the Vagina Monologues along with a commentary about the censorship. Like maybe, having the students flash large artistic cards showing the word "vagina" every time the word should have been spoken. Or perhaps someone on stage running a sound loop with the word spoken over and over and over to fill in the students' silence...or maybe if they wanted to be real daring, a huge backdrop filled with all the slang and foreign and medical terms....
