We must act in unison - plastic will not degrade to any extent and will accumulate. If the position is bad now what of the effects in a few more years? Many of the abandoned fishing nets will fish and destroy for many years.

Get active - spread the word - spread the word

We keep finding out how being cheap costs us more than we bargained for. Once all boat rigging was made of hemp. When hemp became criminalized, synthetics like nylon became universal standards. As with pesticides that were meant to last like DDT, the persistence is hanging over us like a shadow. Everything needs a use by date, after which it can be fed back into the natural or human system that created it. We need to 'harvest' this oceanic plastic with minimal effect on wildlife, and come up with alternatives that won't choke the future. It's not a question. We have left ourselves with no choice.
