You hit the nail on the head. People seem to be so "busy" all the time, they don't have time to connect.

partially this is a result of the decrease or dislocation of "leisure time" arising from shifts and weekend work.
also, the old community weekend hangouts are disintegrating into clique commercial "party" venues
you can't communicate meaningfully if you don't know people. meet them online?
(falls off chair laughing)
friendship is becoming "connections/contacts"
