First there was Bush - “I don’t think you can win” the war on terror. "But I think you can create conditions so that those who use terror as a tool are less acceptable in parts of the world.” Then Secretary of Defense Gates - The debate in Congress has been helpful in demonstrating to the Iraqis that American patience is limited. The strong feelings expressed in the Congress about the timetable probably has had a positive impact in terms of communicating to the Iraqis that this is not an open-ended commitment. So when we finally leave Bush's quagmire, because it isn't an open-ended commitment, Republicans will spin it as "the war wasn't winnable". Semantics. Outstanding clip. I don't think Bobby quite caught the significance of the date. Brazilnut you give yourself too much credit. I see the date. I hardly believe we are one year away from victory in Iraq. We are getting caught up in a civil war (which was predictable). What do you call building walls to separate Sunni from Shia? That's hardly the democracy that the Bush Administration touted. If you are going to do that just partition the whole country. The Bush Administration has no long term plan. We lose more GI's everyday so we can appease W's ego so he can say we didn't leave on his watch. Very sad. Hey jackass, I'm still pretty damn sure we aren't one year away from anything resembling victory in Iraq. Furthermore there is more to that quote than the little bit shown here out of context. |
