I love science fiction, but radio? I'll give it a try though- The plot sounds fantastic.

It is rather surreal and certainly won't be to everyone's taste. I lay down and sort of let it wash over me - which was great.

The BBC produce quite a lot of sci-fi radio drama. They recently had a special sci-fi season, which I meant to clip about, but somehow didn't get round to it. If you're quick many will still be available (They're usually available worldwide for 7 days after broadcast date.)

It is also worth checking the iplayer sci-fi listing regularly. BBC 7 has a sci-fi slot at 6pm - 7pm daily.

Enjoy

Dang! Missed the opportunity to listen - nevermind, thanks for the heads up.

It - the premise - reminded, somewhat, Dennis Potter's last play "Cold Lazarus":
"Cold Lazarus is set in the 24th century, in a dystopian Britain where the ruined streets are unsafe, and where society is run by American oligarchs in charge of powerful commercial corporations. Experiences are almost all virtual, and anything deemed authentic (such as coffee and cigarettes) has either been banned or replaced by synthetic substitutes.

At a cryogenic research institute funded by the pharmaceuticals tycoon Martina Masdon (played by Diane Ladd), a group of scientists led by Dr. Emma Porlock (Frances de la Tour) is ...

Cool! Thanks JW (was going by the date given on the clip): just have to turn off "In Rainbows" and boot-up the laptop.

No problem. I'd be interested to hear what you make of it. It is rather unusual.

Anyone out there in Cyberland know if it's possible to catch all episodes. I mean, can it be found via our 'puters then downloaded? I'm crazy about science fiction, it's a curse...

Anomaly100 - Not sure if you mean "Cold Lazarus"; if so, then there is a problem with copyright it'd the only Potter play that you can't get on DVD. You might try a p2p service but I reckon there's not much chance of finding it.

JW - Potato eyes, nipples, floating heads and more nipples; my head is awash with the imagery - thanks again for the link. Will try and listen to it again today and then drop you a line

my head is awash with the imagery
and it's all of your own making. That's the beauty of radio (and the written word of course).

Yes indeed, the power of radio lies in the listener's imagination; it's provides a far more intimate experience than any TV set can provide.

I listened to the play, again and was just as impressed (as I was in my first listen) by the editing and production value of the piece. What is it about disembodied heads that holds our imagination over the centuries? From the myth of Orpheus to the head of John the Baptist (said to have been recovered and worshiped by the Knights Templar); that - in another tale- still had the power of speech but spoke in 'tongues' and couldn't be understood.

The idea of an android head was a very cool and tapped into the 'alternative' news buzz of the alleged alien...
