I don't think it can be taken back if the person is innocent.

Only God can take back something, life including, from us because, as some from us believe, that was His gift to us... For nonbelievers it is means that in fact nobody has such right. Those who exercise to award themselves this right voluntary placing themselves on the same level with their victims, mentally challenged and intellectually underdeveloped. Sure they are deserve merciful understanding and careful treatment regardless of their deeds but our goal has to be the prevention of that to happen again.
