This agent helps to reverse QRS prolongation, which is associated with TCA intoxication. It prevents development of arrhythmia by alleviating cardio depressant action on sodium channels. Other useful effects are by reversing acidosis associated with TCA overdose. However, sodium bicarbonate is even beneficial at normal pH.
