masbury says: This is breaking new ground: he could be the first President from the bottom of his class. [By comparison, Obama's rank at Harvard Law: 1] he could be the first President from the bottom of his classOH GOD NO At least he got to the test, more than Bush did. I don't see how he could be dumber than Bush. McCain would make a better puppet than Bush as he can remember whole sentences. This reminds me of a joke: Q: What do you call the person that graduates at the bottom of his medical school class? A: Doctor Let's hope we don't call a person who graduates at the bottom of his Annapolis class "Mr. President". If I remember correctly, Bush graduated somewhere in the middle of his Yale class. He too, I'm sure, was a legacy admission, benefiting from the affirmative action of the rich, bumping some high-scoring white kid who blamed it on a high-scoring black kid. I am not certain Bush is stupid. I think it's a cowboy act, and that he's a schemer underneath. His mistakes are suspiciously consistent. He knows better. By definition Annapolis does take a lot of legacy students since entrance to the three top military schools in the U.S. are by appointments, a U.S. Senator or Congressman or the Vice President must put you name forward. In John's case, been the son and grandson of Admiral's don't hurt none. 1. Last year, the Naval Academy had 12,003 applicants for the freshman class that just entered. Of those, only 1,202 were admitted. Of those, better than 84% scored greater than 600 in Math and more than 70% score better than 600 in English on the SAT. After making that cut, they were evaluated by committees from their respective Congressmen and Senator's offices before they were offered appointments to Annapolis. 2. And the really cool part of the information above is that the process has been the same for over a hundred years. The place only takes the best of the best students in the country to begin with. And while it doesn't hurt that McCain's father and grandfather were also gra... Well, that's pretty fiery. You are right, of course, that many elite schools have legacy programs, as I have often written. But the point of a legacy program is the admission of a student who would not have otherwise made it in. It is affirmative action for white kids from rich or powerful families. My points are simply that McCain's admission was not on his own merits and that his academic performance was poor. And that that is a contrast with his opponent, who finished at the top of his Harvard Law class. One didn't do well; the other made a rather rare achievement out of higher education. For noting those facts, I am an "elitist ass?" Really, you ought to make me earn the label. "Best students in the country"? Make that, the best who apply. Who with half a brain would go to a military school? 600 is not that high for an SAT - above average but way below genius. 16-30% scored less than 600, which makes them only slightly above average or just average, at best. And at the .5 % McCain level? Dumb and Dumber. Face it - conservatives can't brag about having brains! The Bushes have no respect for intelligence at all: Bush Sr. (paraphrased from memory): "Scientists have no common sense. A scientist will tell you that you can hang an elephant from a thread, but common sense tells you that you can't." I wonder which "scientist" told him that??? Char... |
