TheCatWhisperer says: Apparently, the kids created a map-mod of his school so he & his friends could play it in a game (like counterstrike or some other multi-player game, probably fps). Now I understand why some might get their panties in a knot over this, but I think it was likely innocent. Back in the day, my buddies and I did the same thing, creating a map of our school in i think doom or quake. We did it fir fun, not to "practice" killing our fellow students, but simply because we thought it would be fun play in a familiar map. That and it was a lot easier than dreaming up our own maps. Our lab prof thought it was fantastic and even played with us once (he was terribly horrible, but we thought it was awesome that he encouraged us to be creative). I think this kids was just doing it for fun, with no malicious intent. Now, however he has every right to be angry, they painted him as a terrorist & potential murderer, this will probably go on his permanent record even if he is cleared. You brought up alot of the points I was going to type, but: Inlight of today's chaotic world, everyone is jumping at every popping sound. I saw some guys at a construction site the other day who were even turning their heads and looking when another worker used a Hilti nail gun. It uses .22 caliber 'blank' rounds to drive nails into concrete. It sounds just like a gun, because that's what it is. Whether this kid made the mod of his school for 'innocent' purposes or not, it can very easily be considered a training tool for killing. Clebold and Harris (from the Columbine killings) did similiar things prior to their attack. Also, with the internet and file sharing, that mod will mos... Yeah, I completely agree with what you are saying, I just really have a great issue with how they handled it.. I went on a bit more about it on my blog. I think they should have handled it quietly until they were sure the kid meant some malicious act. AS it stands, they've done great harm to the poor kid, his family, friends & community. It is likely that people will look at him as evil or bad now, even if he meant nothing bad at all. It just sucks to be him |
