infidel70 says: For all of the advocates of a national healthcare system controlled by the federal government, we only need look north to the recent history of the Canadian healthcare system that covers all of its citizens. American care will go down faster - with the new cap and tax system hospitals will have to go back to using candles and burning wood for heat A government system can be done poorly or well, and there are plenty of examples of each. If you want to know what a government system can do, it would be better to compare with a highly rated one like France or Taiwan or Japan. Even so, there is no "national healthcare system controlled by the federal government" on the table in the USA. All that is under discussion at the moment is INSURANCE. In a system like you describe, the medical personnel are government employees. In the systems under consideration in the US, ALL HEALTHCARE PROVIDERS ARE PRIVATE. Only insurance changes, and the vast bulk of that would still be private. It really does take to long to get appointments to see specialists because some of the equipment they need for testing requires special knowledge to run. These specialists don't come cheap. And as we all know with government spending being cut, health care and education are the first to go. There are hospitals where all that equipment sits idle for days, empty wards but people spending their hospital stay in the corridors or even linen or cleaning closets. Yes, our health care is falling apart. |
