Thanks mugofcoffee, I hope more people pop this clip, highlight the problem and garner support in doing something about it... they should put thier men in a camp and just use them for breeding! I really don't understand the logic behind a preference for boys.... How do the mothers feel about this, being female?? I can understand it in China since they're only allowed one child, but not in India.. how stupid must people be seriously goodness if you have less females you'll have an a warped sex population pyramid, that won't be effeicent enough to sustain or even refreash a population. 300 women for every 1000 males errrr in a womens lifetime a women can have about less then 20. But also India is maybe at a loss if a majority of working men go to war that's another stab at the population.... then there is competition for jobs, space, food and supplies etc.. since men cannot cooperate there will be strife! ......also one must take into account that men live less then women WOW but what i really mean to say is India is f**k'd even if they have that big numbers, their future looks q... @jmjoness In India, there has pretty much always been a preference for males. It stems mostly from the fact that the dowry system exists in full force in certain places (eg. Punjab). Parents of girls end up taking huge loans, sometimes selling almost everything they own in order to pay the huge dowries that the families of boys demand, once again reinforcing the fact that girls are a liability, boys are good....(actually I don't get the point...the parents of the girl are in effect 'buying a husband' for their daughter...why are the boys so proud of themselves?? well anyway....) The Government has put a lot of laws in place for prevention of Dowry and prevention of female infanticide/abort... So the parents of the boy demand payment... And they give it... So basically the boy is under the iron will of their parents until married? Very strange indeed. Poverty is also a major factor, the male is considered a breadwinner where as female is not hence she's a burden to begin with. So in other words they don't really care about their children, they care about what their children will do for them. No wonder their society is such a mess. The Government has put a lot of laws in place for prevention of DowryHas the government put a law in place to stop the female circumcision that I just witnessed on an earlier clip? I don't know what's worse. If I abandon my daughter maybe she will escape the torture? It's a no win situation. Maybe the women are taking a stand but it is having a negative result. On the other hand, if there are no women for the men, then where does that leave the men? Extinct. Maybe these women are not so ignorant afterall. PS - I don't mean "ignorant" in the literal sense. Rather, the way they are looked down upon "as a burden" as stated. I was inferring that being a 'liability' can have its benefits. Instant Karma over the long haul. arifsali, Typical Indian rationalization. All I can say dont worry about preparing for damnation for evil. Daniel Typical Indian rationalization. All I can say dont worry about preparing for damnation for evil.Would you like to give your own reason for the cultural preference of females in Indian society? I agree it is a rationalization but to criticize without giving your own input seems a bit cheap to me. And what is "all I can say don't worry about preparing for damnation for evil" supposed to mean?! *Correction, cultural preference for males @bookchick as far as i know there is no female circumcision in India (us Indian girls are forever thankful for that!!) @dstruve I don't understand what you're trying to say @jmjoness Just for the record, Indian society isn't any more of a mess than any other society. Every culture/society has features it can be proud of as well as things that are better not being spoken of... Agree w/Deepti. India is a much-maligned country that has always been shown in a bad light by the western media. @bookchickThere was a clip earlier on female circumcision, but I think they were muslim and an arab country (though they seemed slightly more liberal than most, their clothing was colored and their faces were exposed). Just for the record, Indian society isn't any more of a mess than any other society. Every culture/society has features it can be proud of as well as things that are better not being spoken of...Well we weren't talking about other societies, we were talking about Indian society. I agree that other countries have problems o... Ah yes, I was referring to "Inside a Female Circumcision Ceremony." I err'd by thinking both of these articles were in respect to India. However, it should be noted that the link to the clip I mentioned does not share where this ceremony takes place. Sorry for the assumption and thank you for the correction. @jmjoness This article mainly talks about the state of things in Punjab & 5 north western states. India is a huge country, do not paint the whole lot of us with the same brush. I do agree there are things wrong with the way certain Indians go about things...that does not mean the whole lot of us are messed up Deepti, I agree with you. The point is, there is no rationalization, there is no reason, there is only bad choices here. choices have consequences. |
