Thorne says:
Frances Kissling begins the article with: I spent my final 10 years at Catholics for a Free Choice refusing to take press calls about the "partial-birth" abortion ban. It seemed a no-win proposition. Rational arguments about protecting women's health, preventing tragic births when the infant's brief life would be filled with unbearable pain, and the doctor's need to decide what type of abortion would be safest for her patient were simply too abstract to compete with even a measured and accurate description of what happens during this procedure, known medically as an intact dilation and extraction (D&X) abortion. The 20-plus-week fetus' physical resemblance to a baby was the debate closer.

My clip is only a bit of the full article.

Frances Kissling can could call herself a toad if she liked, but it would not make her one. Likewise, neither she, nor her organization are Catholic.

Thankfully, for those who were not sure, c_c, The Grand Arbiter, has ruled who is what they believe to be and who is not, based on their Dogmatic Conformity Quotientâ„¢. Be thankful for his benevolence on our behalf.

"Remember, you aren't what you believe yourself to be, but rather what c_c determines you are."

I'll keep that in mind, BB! A better analogy for your logic, c_c, might be, "George Bush can call himself a christian, but that doesn't make him one."

Actually, Thorne, If he says he is a Christian, then he pretty much is one.

A better analogy would be,
GB can call himself a leader, but that does not mean he is one.

By the way thorne, Despite our disagreements, and your public grievances, I respect your honesty and clear thing. Just want to let you know that befor EG bans me and cancels my account as he is emailing me and threatening to do.

You can go around spouting your anti-Catholic bigotry if you like -- ala BB -- but it still doesn't make CFFC Catholic. If you're intellectually honest, you cannot have the rejection of a particular groups teaching as your primary goal and then claim to be part of that particular group. It is only simple logic, not a "grand arbitration". Furthermore, when that group specifically disavows you -- as the US Conference of Catholic Bishop's has -- you logically cease to be a part of the group.

Since you like to use the Bush analogy, it would be as if he decided to call himself a Democrat tomorrow without any change in his beliefs or behaviors. Would the Democratic Party accept him? Would he...

I agree. That was my first thought, willie.
(Then I decided to try for a little more "zing". Shoulda gone with my first instinct!)

I have to admit I've enjoyed most of our debates and discourse, willhelm, despite our occasional "shots". I'd be sorry to see you go. What kind of hell have you been raising to get yourself banned?? Stop by my blog any time... I have a pretty open censorship policy... like NONE!!!! (Well, I suppose there might be something I'd delete, but I can't imagine what it might be, with the exception of spambot stuff)
