I would like to think that what looks like schizophrenic foreign policy to us on the outside does serve some purpose for the internal functioning of the government. I would like to think that this may be a way to indicate that the official Iranian position is that the Holocaust did really happen.

Some argue that it links the Holocaust with Israel's creation, thus boosting an argument by Ahmadinejad that if the Nazi killing of Jews did take place, the Palestinians who then lived in Palestine should not have had to pay the price for it by the creation of Israel after the war.

Mayhap, and that argument does not sound as crazy as some would like to make it.
