Kore7 says: It's like the elephant in the room that no politician wants to mention. Expecting a fix now is probably asking too much of short-sighted politicians who have no incentives to do so. A pop for believing in the notion of this disaster. US could be going to Mars... US could be going extinct... US could be going communist... Could is a poweful word in the English language. One can use it to suggest just about anything about anyone anywhere and get away with it, since any possibility can arise under the right circumstances. arifsali, your 'belief in the notion of this disaster' could be shared by some in this audience... one could say you're a seer... but then again, one wouldn't... besides you should pray US doesn't go bankrupt, since such event could kill the Internet, could kill Clipmarks and thus could kill your chance for informing everyone about your ... notions and beliefs. Well, when the facts are so visible, how could one not believe? Arifsali, What supposed, impending, media-hyped disaster do you not believe? We seem to be at a point where only a miracle could prevent such a bankruptcy. So again, who believes in miracle? But obviously, some of us would be waiting for Republicans to keep the hold on Congress and White House, so they'd be the one who'd miracalously be taking us out of this disaster. And if that happens, I will believe !!!! But until then, let me keep an eye on the facts and figures. wilhelm, I don't know about what I do not believe, but I know I could not believe watching all the liberties, rights and freedom being stripped away from American society just for the sake of security. If this is media-hyped unnatural and not-so-true disaster, then I thank you for correcting, and taking me out of my ignorance. No reason for self-criticism, arifsali, you certainly have a right to your opinion. We're just making a friendly suggestion that a) media is more wrong than right these days, extremely eager to jump the gun to serve their agenda (whether it's money or politics) and b) fiscal things can change rather quickly... think back to the mid-90s when the budget did get balanced and rather fast as I recall, so don't lose hope - it's not all lost. As for liberties being lost - the victims of 9/11 have you beat in that department hands down. I'd like to hear precisely what liberties you personally lost (I know I certainly haven't) and security is important, since if there is no security - you die and ... if there is no security - you die and then what good would do you all of the liberties in the world? But Americans have stood up for liberty and died protecting it throughout their entire history. Do you think they were fools for doing so? The safe and secure thing would have been to give in to England's rule during the Revolution. Know what I'm saying? I know what you're saying... but things are quite a bit different today, in terms of the weapons, in terms of the way attacks are made and the devastation they can bring, i.e. 9/11. When redcoats came - you could see them, you could wait for them, you even had time to prepare. We're dealing with an entirely different scenario and whole slew of entirely different weapons... These people aren't firing muskets and reloading them for 30 seconds... keep that in mind. Well I hope the US doesn't look for Buffet or Gates to bail them out, since Buffet gave away all his money to Gates Foundation and now Gates plans to give all of his and Buffet's money away...... I don't think Gates+Buffet would have enough anyway, even if they wanted to assist... Besides, let's not blow up what COULD happen out of proportion and discuss it as something that already happened. |
