Although no fan of Newt Gingrich he hits the spot on this topic. Tired of Bush=Cheney aiding and abetting the terrorists by keeping us dependent on Mid-East oil and Mid-East chaos that keeps its price high and highly profitable for his buddies.

I think he saying its phony because it does not go far enough for him. He sees the current conflict as a sort of WW IV or V. I personally see it as the First Global Insurgency, but that is a topic for another time.

Gingrich said he would lay out in a Sept. 10 speech what a successful U.S. approach to this threat would have looked like over the past six years.

"First of all, we have to have a national energy strategy, which basically says to the Saudis, 'We're not going to rely on you,' " he said.
At least, unlike the usual ignorant conservative war supporters who will invariable comment on this clip, he acknowledges that a great part of the problem is Saudi Arabia. But nothing will be done by the Bush administration as the House of Bush and the House of Saud are one. More misdirection will continue "Look! The Iranians".

I was in high school when he was speaker, and don't really remember his politics much. I was pretty indifferent to him until this clip. As my dad is so fond of saying, " piece of brain!".

Not to mention the usual ignorant ultra-leftist war defeatists who will invariabl(y) post this clip while believing the House of Saud is any more "one" with this administration than its been with any other American administration during the oil era.

Also, BobbyRutan, I agree completely. The Iranians are being used as another distraction from putting the focus where it should be: catching Osama. I saw Ann Coulter on the today show, saying Osama isn't important. What? Wasn't it he that provoked this whole "war on terror"? I think our invasion of Iraq has made many lose sight of our original objective. The Iraqi was had nothing to do with 9/11, although most extreme conservatives are fond of linking the two. In fact, there were very few terrorist in Iraq before we went in. They have followed us there to undermine our efforts. IMO, our actions have, if anything, turned people who would have otherwise stayed out of it, into terrorists. So mu...

@davboz

When the Bush family does personal business with the Bin Laden family it doesn't take much imagination to figure out why W. is less than enthusiastic to find Osama.

Thanks for proving my statement by not pointing out that Saudi Arabia is complicit in the insurgency in Iraq. What a failure the Bush administration is.

A special thanks to Ronald Reagan for killing Carter's energy initiatives to develop alternative fuels to oil.

I recall a quote from Oliver Stone's movie 'Nixon' :

Nixon shuffles back alone, coming to a stop in front of a larger-than-life, full-length oil portrait of JOHN F. KENNEDY. Nixon studies the portrait, pads closer. Looks up.

NIXON
When they look at you, they see what they want to be.

When they look at me, they see what they are ...
