arifsali says: Yeah right! Just like you also don't have many who oppose your government. Ahmadinejad might want to learn English, since Western media keeps misinterpreting him. That has to be so frustrating. I'm glad he cleared that up Arif. I'm no fan of his by any means either, but this was the topic of discussion on a local radio show on the day of his speech, and an Iranian immigrant called in saying much the same thing...that the voice-over interpreter phrased it incorrectly. In Iran, all sexual relations that occur outside of a traditional, heterosexual marriage are illegal and no legal distinction is made between consensual or non-consensual sexual activity. Homosexual relations that occur between consenting adults in private are a crime and carry a maximum punishment of death. Knowing that, I would think the original confused statement could be true and the current decoded statement true as well. Maybe it makes him sound less ignorant, but there's no sigh of relief for the gay and lesbian community. Ooops. First he didn't say "Israel should be wiped off the map" and now, "There are no gays in Iran". Q. How can you tell when a politician is lying? A. When they always say they were mis-interpreted. |
