I wish I had this talent. It must feel so satisfying to create such a beautiful thing.

My father had this talent. I begged him to teach me but it can't be taught; it's a gift.

The light & shadowing make the picture. Very nice.

Jatfla, do you have any of your father's art in your house? What a treasure!

No, lollipop. I'm sorry, I do not.

Darn. Realism just doesn't hold a candle to this, as far as i'm concerned. Not photographic type realism.

I love to see brush strokes, and looseness. And look at the way the artist hasn't covered every last centimeter of the paper with paint, but has left some of the paper to show through here and there....it makes it look sparkly, and sunny, and almost makes you want to squint.

Yes mousie but only a couple....a still life and he did an ocean scene for my MIL. Like most talented/gifted artists, he was never satisfied with his work and was embarrassed for others to see it.

I agree with lolli's comments.

I agree, lollipop. That's the hardest part about watercolor. 100% of my paintings end up with too much paint on the paper. My new goal is to make it a point to not put enough paint on the paper. I bet I would end up liking the paintings with not enough paint than the ones with too much paint.

Yes, it's definitely better not to overwork it, or muddy your colors from too much messing around. Good luck with that Willhelm.

@ Mousie--truthfully, i don't think an artist ever (italics) appreciates themselves the way others do. I don't think it's possible (speaking form my own experience, anyway) to see your own artwork the way that others see it. No matter what kind of artwork it is--if it's on paper, or out of clay, or with yarn, whatever, i think the artist always knows what they did wrong....but then i'm a girl and girls always see that stuff that's wrong, right? lol.
