rvnurse2b says: If evolution is taught exclusively, and we rid all our public places of religion, and we continue to affirm as a nation, that there is no Creator, will any of us still have rights under the constitution? Yes, of course. rvnurse, That is a profound question. Rights are given to man and we allow government to borrow these rights. When God is removed, there is no other source for rights other than the State. This is the materialist agenda that has resulted in millions of deaths in China, Europe, Russia, and elsewhere. Where God is removed Materialism reigns, but people usually always wake up. We certainly will in America and I think in the not too distant future. Thats a mouthful and incorrect to say the least. The rights come from the people, and they are the ones that empower government. It is when the leaders of the State forget that they are public servants and not nobility that repression and totalitarianism kick in. Besides what does science have to do with Sunday school anyway? Science belongs in the classroom and Creationism belongs in the church. They can only take those rights that you allow them to take from you. I agree with you ratilfar. I don't see rights as having been "given" to people. I see them as being created by people based on ethics, morality and intelligence. People do not create ethics, morality and intelligence. If we did, then somone could "create" the idea that killing 5 year old children is ethical, or create the idea of square circles. People OWN their rights. They are manifest in people. We grant power to our government. Rights come from a metaphysical sense NOT Government. When you say they come from people, you are saying they come from government. That is circular. We grant government our Rights. THE DO NOT GRANT US THEIRS. Ratilfar says: They can only take those rights that you allow them to take from you. Then, EG agrees with Ratlifar and says: I agree with you ratilfar[i]. I don't see rights as ... I did not say they where communal, I meant them to be individual, although they can be expressed in a communal fashion, and yes morality has been twisted to excuse almost every behavior, including the murder of innocents, because they are pagans or infidels or non believers or not "Us". I have rights because I am human and as a human being I have certain unalienable rights. Do not confuse the individual with the society, goverment is an expression of the will of the people (active or passive), not the other way around. It us who give power to goverment and we who can taketh away. Thats why another important document starts with the words... We the People... Well, Ratilfar. Your clarification actually makes some sense. I was thrown off by EG's assertion. However, your contention has some problems in the materialist sense and that is the point of the clip and my original comment. The subject is not where do government rights come from, the question is where do our rights come from. In Materialist traditions like Russia, rights come from the State. It the same thing in France. The Frech Constitution cites the rights of the people are derived from the State. The US founding documents, on the other hand, express the idea that our right ARE inalienable. That is unique. It expresses the idea that not only does the government (o... |
