I think they should give him a gold medal simply for the amount of food he eats every day...and then burns off by swimming and exercise.

LOL @ TRN. Where does he find the time?

Cavic should have got the gold medal...

How do you figure tanja? He reached the wall second. It wasn't the Men's 99.99 Meter Butterfly Final. Phelps finished first, redardless of who was leading most of the race.
Yeah, he prolly should've, would've, could've won, but that doesn't really matter, except to Cavic for next time. Maybe he should've grown his fingernails out more. Or if he would've taken an extra stroke instead of coasting an eternity with his head out of the water. Or perhaps if he could've...bah, it's pointless.

If Homer were writing of Phelps in his day, he'd narrate how he had the favor of the gods, and/or had godly lineage, and we would have a constellation named after him.

We'll probably never witness his like again, what with the specialization in swimming (really any sport). When I was coaching swimming, we always taught swim to the wall--never glide to the wall. Yes, he had to take a half stroke, but that's why he beat Cavic to the wall. One of the women, I forget which, lost because she had both hands already tilted up to touch the wall (from about 1 foot out)and the swimmer that beat her kept her hand down (in a steamlined position) until the last second when she touched the wall. And that was the difference! Swimming at the Olympic level of competition is all about streamlining and because of the various heats, semifinals and finals, your recovery time.

People love a conspiracy.

But take a look at the large version of photo number five in this clip. You can clearly see Phelps finger tips on his right hand bent back from touching the wall. And in the next picture, they have a blowup of Cavic's fingertips which are clearly NOT touching the wall. Unless someone is suggesting that the photos were doctored, it seems pretty clear that Phelps won in a real photo finish.

it is maybe how the picture looks like... but can anyone see 100th part of the second with the clear eye? I don't think so...

A person can't, but a camera can see that easily. My camera can see 1/4000th of a second and there are higher end cameras that can see even more. But you make a good point. That conspiracy site tries to put a lot of emphasis on what people think they saw, but doesn't show that one photo from below that shows what a still camera saw. A picture is worth a thousand words, or in this case, worth 1/100th of a second.

exactly. The high speed cameras at my spouses work place capture explosions and shockwaves on film at over 1/1,000,000 of a second. And when you have things that move or expand quickly (like fireballs and explosions) you need all of that speed.

you need both hands, no conspiracy.
both cavic's finger are bent. right hand, left hand.
Pictures can explain why phelps hit the chrono first.
i can't explain why nobody overruled.

It wasn't overruled because Phelps won fair and square.

Okay, now show me precedence. Show me one incident where a swimmer was disqualified or penalized when his or her finger tips touched the wall withing a few thousandths of a second from each other. Show some evidence that when they say simultaneously they mean the hands can't hit even 0.001 seconds apart.

enough time to hit twice whatsoever.
