tpq62 says: Ancient tsunamis are cropping up all over the place. I saw this article and it was interesting, but how did they come up with this idea? Did I miss it in the article? What evidence do they have to prove this? It's funny that we have a tendency to think that the world has been *as is* forever. A fascinating study is how the continents split. Um, good questions. I can guess, but as as you say, it's not in there. Thats's one of the problems with the Livescience site. It publishes "cool" things that aren't necessarily ready for prime time or that may not pass muster, like the "first ritual" piece. The landslide all seems pretty straightforward, and then after that I think they just did a simulation of what they think must have happened afterwards. The Atlit-Yam connection seems shaky. Not quite sure why sorted piles of fish would survive a tsunami like that. Still, now that the likelihood is there people can start looking for more evidence. Thanks awfully for this interesting clip. My pleasure. There is a little more detail here at the (nearly unreadable) Discovery Channel. Apparently the research is published. |
