The patients were sent to hospitals that were better equipped to deal with heart attack victims, and this was said to be despite the loss of revenue to the smaller hospitals. They're remembering that Doctors and hospitals exist for the sake of patients, not the other way around. Or is that only in an ideal world?

I've seen many doctors and nurses in hospital. I've seen very few on the front line that did not focus on the interests of the patient. Nurses particularly do not get the credit they deserve. It seems like they have to be born into the profession, because their wages generally do not reflect the work they do. You can't pay someone to be good, and I've met few nurses that aren't. Nurses often work in the profession because they get satisfaction from watching someone recover from a problem with their help. If they don't they can have trouble staying a nurse.
Of course Doctors are entitled to credit, but the are more likely to have given it to themselves. Perhaps in the view that the fact that someone will recover, is of little doubt.
