Just to clarify a few things, it mentions in the article that Exxon will pay more in taxes "both here and outside the US" than the entire bottom 50% of taxpayers. Why does the writer include the figure for "outside the US" as well? I will tell you, it makes for a better "spin" and your average reader will not pick up on it. So an equal comparison is not made, unless you include the amounts the bottom 50% of persons paying taxes in the places "outside the US" as well, I will bet the math is quite different then! Also, we provide more subsidies "here inside the US" to oil companies than do most other countries combined, while they are using federal property (...

Seems to me that if the government is allowing you to use their property that is one hell of a subsidy...

I don't believe the authors included earned income credits that are paid to many in the bottom 50%. So their taxes are actually negative.
