The alleged ringleader's mother told reporters her son was a sweet child and that she had lost faith in the justice system.
A sweet boy?? Geeeez!! Her statement is almost as shocking as the incident itself! One can only imagine the immense fear and terror the poor victim must have felt. It's simply shocking and so hard to fathom, that kids so young can do something so heinous and horrific. Poor boy...I hope he'll be okay.

I hope the parents of this child sue the parents of those who tortured him and I hope they receive a large judgement.

OMFG!

I have no words that are adequate enough to express how that story makes me feel.........the 'children' responsible put me in mind of another 2 'kids' from the UK from many years ago, who tortured and killed a 4 year old.........
The schools were wondering how long to SUSPEND them for?????????????? No way my child would be anywhere near a school that had ANIMALS like that in it!!!!

And we wonder why in the USA a "different", "odd", "does not fit in" child brings a gun to school and starts shooting. When investigating the school shooter(s)' lives, they almost always have been bullied in some fashion -- bullies do not ever let up, the student is hounded endlessly, and nowadays there is no escape at home what with text messaging, facebook, etc. This one in Australia is an extreme case, but imagine a student who cannot get away from it by going home--when he finally acts, its often in a school shooting, he feels that its the only option left to him--schools and teachers have a no bullying policy, but catching the bully is impossible--even when the student being bullied t...

the only slight silver lining i can find in this is that the victim had the courage to tell his parents and the authorities. So often it seems that victims are too afraid or ashamed to report incidents like this, which enables the wrongdoers to get away with it and do it again.

I hope this type of courage serves him well and enables him to somehow get past this trauma.

In my opinion, bullying is one of the most insidious forms of psychological and/or physical torture there is and children do not have the maturity or coping skills to deal with things like this and often internalize their frustrations and fear and even hatred. Even "just" verbal abuse can be devastating. It makes me think of the verse "Sticks and stones may break my bones, but names will never hurt me." Well, maybe the bones come out intact, but the damage to the soul cannot be underestimated.

As a child, my family moved a lot and having to start over repeatedly in new schools in different places or countries so often, was sometimes very, very hard. I have oh so many of my own horror storie...

Now.... could I ever go postal? No way. It has made me so incredibly anti-violence and anti-war and anti-anything-that-hurts, BUT that being said, I do have a great deal of compassion and feel sadness for those who do and even an understanding of what drove them to it. Bullying must NEVER be brushed off as just kids being kids. Both the victim and the tormentors grow up. Both with the potential seeds for violence. (Suicide, murder, wife-beating, animal abuse etc.) If your kids are ever bullied, DEMAND that the school take some serious action against it. DEMAND it or don't send your kids back to yet another day of terror. It shapes who they are and who they become. Theirs and even other people's lives could depend on it some day.

That poor child! I can't help but wonder what motivates bullies to do such horrific things, and to wonder if they have witnessed violence in their homes, and this is a case of violence begetting violence. So sad.

I hate to say this but those boys are sadistic sociopaths and probably beyond help. They will likely go on to torture, and murder as they age. So sad to see.

Could you mean the terrible murder of little James Bulger? He was only 2 and the two boys who murdered him were 10 years old. Ten.
