papananook says: Finally I can vote with a clear conscience, without holding my nose and I can look in the mirror without flinching 'cuz I had to vote for a Democrat (don't even consider Repubs) This is why McCain could win. Nader will take away enough democratic votes (Nader is running as an Independent) splitting the party. Wish I could feel as positive about it as you, pappa. No way, KK...Not nearly as many people will vote Nader after what happened in 2000--a lot less voted Nader in '04 and probably less in '08 what with Obamamania....It'll be a landslide in Nov.--McCain is a pretty weak entry. Not to worry, KK-- I'm just glad that Nader will bring some anti-corporate, small defense-budget, REAL health care issues to the table like Kucinich would have if they hadn't forced him outta the race. This is, of course predicated on the assumption we don't have some catastrophe before Nov. and Bush/Cheney suspending the elections and declaring Martial Law....Yikes! In 2000, in Wisconsin which was considered a swing state, I voted for Gore because of a site which allowed me to pledge my vote in exchange with another who pledged his vote for Nader in a non-swing state. It was about making a statement of dissatisfaction about the system as a whole through total vote number while still trying to respect the political balance which I knew would not be upset by the presence of Nader in general in the state my counterpart voted in. The point is, we need a much more active political scene with many more voices speaking to the beliefs of the populace at large. We aren't all blue-suits or gray-suits. Some are green, some are plaid, some are checked. All have a ... Amen to that, BBear...maybe if people would LISTEN to Nader instead od blaming him for '00, then we could do something about changing this stupid system that is strangled by the corporations, big Health/Pharma, Defense contractors and lobbyists. We should be speaking truth to the powers-that-be just like Nader does. I can only hope that you are correct, papa trying to understand politics gives me a headache. I trusted Kucinich, with him gone I have not bothered to follow the others "same old, same old". Now if they manage to remove his watchdog voice by defeating him at home, I may just succumb to despair Don't despair, KK, Meditate! Politics is a soul killer so remember it's not all there is to life. Smell the roses, go to the beach...whatever floats your boat. |
