What a ridiculous article. I think you should read Aitzaz Ahsan's book "Indus Saga and the Making of Pakistan." Also, you might want to take a trip to Pakistan and see for yourself; the days when out of touch Sindhi waderas dreamed of separating from the state to perpetuate their totalitarian control are over. But that might be a problem, since as I understand you're on the Exit Control List. — Comment removed by clipper — — Comment removed by clipper — "Also, you might want to take a trip to Pakistan and see for yourself; the days when.. totalitarian control are over. But that might be a problem, since as I understand you're on the Exit Control List." Hmm.. No comment needed! You failed to understand my point (perhaps deliberately). As far as I know, actions that are intended to incite separatist fervor are considered treason in almost every country, including the U.S. Also, I see that you've removed my comment. Criticism is an altogether different animal when it's directed at oneself, isn't it? And here you are motivating others to risk their livelihoods and organize against the government... saeen, iyya ta munaafqat aahay! This is a perfect example of why I think the only output of your "Free Sindh" movement will be mindless, self-congratulatory, and out-of-touch discussions between senile men waxing nostalgic about the good old days. And perhaps your host... You should learn more about nonviolent, civilized ways.. Quebecois separatists won several times and even held two referendums on separation. Scottish separatists are now the largest party in Scottish parliament. Belgium, after centuries, came close to splitting without any threat of violence. "You should learn more about nonviolent, civilized ways." Where did I advocate violent ways? My point is that there is no need for any separatist movement. The irony in your approach is that you fail to realize that separatism invariably results in endless cycles of violence. Once you've separated Sindh from Pakistan, what will you advocate next? The expulsion of Pathans and Urdu-speaking people? Should cross-provincial families be split up? Should the poor people in Balochistan be eternally condemned to live under the brutal dictates of Sardars? By your (il)logic, America shouldn't be a country, because it simply doesn't make "sense" if you consider the ethnic, religious, and cultur... Human rights are universal. The Right of Self-Determination for a people is universal. Treason is a violent conspiracy to overthrow constitutional order (of course, the last part is meaningless as most Presidents of Pakistan have committed treason to get into office). Read the judgment on the right of secession by Canada's Supreme Court. Violence is Pakistan's way of suppressing peaceful exercise of human rights. It is a brutal state where "disappearence", "assassinations", etc. of peaceful dissidents is common.. There was no violence in Czechoslovakia (which split) or Canada (which hasn't), Belgium or UK. Violence is not inherent in separatist movements.. they do not necessarily l... Fair enough; suggest some appropriate forums. I honestly think it is quite important that you hear the opinions of Sindhis born after 1970 (the ones who were not brought up with xenophobia). The internet has changed the world. For years, I have been on half a dozen Sindhi email lists with thousands of young Sindhis. Alright; I'll leave you to your blissful ignorance. |
