The State Government is asking Melbourne residents to save more water after introducing tougher water restrictions for the New Year.</P><P class="wallacepara">
Stage three restrictions will come into effect on January 1.</P><P class="wallacepara">
Garden watering will be limited to two days per week for a maximum of eight hours and sprinkler and spray systems will be banned at all times.</P><P class="wallacepara">
Washing cars and filling new pools will also be banned.</P><P class="wallacepara">
Melbourne's water storages are currently 40 per cent full.</P><P class="wallacepara">
Australian Conservation Foundation spokesman Matt Ruchel says tougher restrictions are only part of the solution.</P><P class="wallacepara">
He says the Government should go much further in investing in water recycling and encouraging more people to use water tanks. </P><P class="wallacepara">
