Djiezes says: One more I can't believe I'm reading this. "Those who delay sex until marriage avoid out-of-wedlock births in both their teen and adult years," the guidelines read. "They decrease the likelihood of acquiring a sexually transmitted disease. They reduce the risk of having children who live absent from their fathers or who grow up poor." Nothing to do with public health? You got to be kidding me. I can't believe I'm reading you reading this. Uh, I don't know what to say.. How much of USA tax dollars are being completely wasted on this program? I propose they spend the money promoting "protected sex." Oh, sex is good. Can't find that page anymore, but on their site I did find: http://www.acf.hhs.gov/programs/ofa/annualreport5/chap08.htm As part of TANF (Temporary Assistance for Needy Families, also known as welfare), the five states who reduce their out-of-wedlock births the most in a given year get a "bonus" of $100 million (which I believe they split). And yet as far as I can tell, this was begun under President Clinton in 1997. Therefore it would seem that, though the Bush administration may well be ideologically-driven to the point of ludicrousness, they did not actually invent the idea of the government trying to reduce out-o... Then again, I suppose the argument is that abstaining before marriage isn't the only way to reduce out-of-wedlock births (I personally find it odd the government is actively battling out-of-wedlock births, but so be it). But I mean, isn't it a valid (if one-sided) point that abstinence is a way to avoid pregnancy? They're not exactly evangelizing about the health benefits of prayer or conversion to Christianity... HA! Can I stop laughing yet?! |
